Cutting-edge technology

product_designerState-of-the-art computer software and a fully equipped AMCA certified lab allow COOK engineers to stretch the limits to create increasingly efficient and higher quality air moving equipment. The very latest three-dimensional parametric solid modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software has permitted our engineers to be innovative during development.

Originally used for aircraft design, measuring air flow and stress points, our engineers are first in the industry to adapt the sophisticated software to fan design. The ultra-efficient X.STREAM Propeller Wall Fan is the very first of a new generation of our products utilizing this exciting technology.

As a service to customers, COOK designs and distributes its own selection and product analysis software. Download design tools now.

Advanced testing labs

air_labOur fully computerized AMCA Certified test lab insures that performance data is accurate and reliable. Our air performance testing facility is designed to exceed the requirements of ANSI/AMCA 210-99 and ANSI/ASHRAE 51-1999 for figure 12 and 15 test setups. With a flow range from 0 to 100,000 cfm and pressure capabilities exceeding the Class III operating range, this facility is highly representative of LOREN COOK COMPANY's significant and continued investment in state-of-the-art fan expertise.

While computer models reduce prototypes and allow quicker evaluation of designs, they will never replace physical testing. Our research and development center also includes capabilities for endurance testing of units including start-stop tests, overspeed tests and elevated temperature testing. Detailed sound and vibration analysis equipment also allows our engineering department to assure quiet, smooth running designs.

Purchased components are also subjected to our rigorous testing. Engineering approval is required before any component - from nuts and bolts to motors and bearings - can be used on a COOK product. Electrical components must also pass stringent Underwriters Laboratories (UL) testing procedures. By being a member of UL's Client Test Data Program, these tests can be performed on-site allowing quick response to new designs and enhancements.

High quality assembly

fansA close inspection of COOK products, as contrasted with competitors, will reveal use of the finest component parts and heavier material gauges. For example, COOK's continuously welded seams out perform conventional locking seams found in other products within our industry.

COOK's factory standard Lorenized Fan Finish clearly displays the quality of our products. This baked-on, powder-coat epoxy provides the most durable and corrosive-resistant finish in the industry.

ISO 9001  (+)(-)

ISOISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world's largest developer and publisher of International Standards.

ISO began operations on 23 February 1947. ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of some 163 countries, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system. More than 100 of ISO's members are from developing countries.

Every full member of ISO has the right to take part in the development of any standard which it judges to be important to its country's economy. No matter what the size or strength of that economy, each participating member in ISO has one vote. ISO standards are voluntary. As a non-governmental organization, ISO does not regulate or legislate. However, countries may decide to adopt ISO standards as regulations or refer to them in legislation. In addition, ISO standards may become a market requirement. ISO has more than 18 000 International Standards in its current portfolio.

ISO's work program ranges from standards for traditional activities, such as agriculture and construction, through mechanical engineering, manufacturing and distribution, to transport, medical devices, the environment, safety, information and communication technologies, and to standards for good practice and for services. ISO launches the development of new standards in response to the sectors that express a clearly established need for them. At the end of 2009, the ISO standards-development system comprised 3 238 technical bodies in the ISO system, including 210 ISO technical committees.

The costs of developing standards are mainly borne by the ISO members that manage the specific standards development projects and the business organizations that provide experts to participate in this work. An average of seven ISO technical meetings takes place every working day somewhere in the world. An increasing amount of the work is carried out electronically, which saves time and costs. The time it takes to develop and publish an ISO standard is down from an average of 4.2 years in 2001 to 2.7 years in 2009.

ISO 9001 Certification has positioned LOREN COOK COMPANY at the very forefront of manufacturing excellence within our industry. The ISO 9001 Quality System at LOREN COOK COMPANY involves every part of the company in activities that assure the quality of our products. The activities that make up this comprehensive quality management system are regularly audited by a recognized third party authority that certifies conformity to the strict ISO 9001 standards.

Our ISO 9001 Quality System includes the following elements:

  • A defined and documented market driven product development procedure that considers the needs of our customers at every phase of the project.
  • Clear and enforceable purchasing standards to assure that production starts with the highest quality materials available.
  • Documented calibration standards for production equipment, fixtures, and measuring devices.

High wind (+)(-)

Miami_DadeLOREN COOK COMPANY 'S "Hurricane Rated Construction" option was developed for the demands of high wind and coastal areas. Through rigorous research and testing, this construction option was developed to meet the demands of Miami-Dade County's Testing Application Standards (TAS) 201, 202 and 203. Every Loren Cook product listed in this brochure has passed all three of the TAS testing protocols. In addition, all of these products have received approval from the Florida Building Commission. The last page of this brochure lists the appropriate NOA number and Florida Product Approval number for each product.

The hurricane rated construction option was engineered so that the fans have the same physical size as the standard construction units. In addition, the fan's air and sound performance, as shown in the product catalogs and Compute A Fan® selection software, remains identical to the standard construction products. Approved attachment details are included in the Notice of Acceptance documents on the Miami-Dade County Florida web site (miamidade.gov) and the Florida Building Commission web site (floridabuilding.org). These details are also available in LOREN COOK COMPANY 's Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual "Hurricane Rated Construction" Supplement. The approved attachment details do not require the use of external tie downs to the roof. Installation of the fans to an approved roof curb must be in accordance with these details to meet the Miami-Dade County and Florida Building Commission approvals.

LOREN COOK COMPANY now offers the most complete line of Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved and Florida Product Approved products in the ventilation industry. If your project requires roof mounted exhaust fans, supply fans or gravity ventilators, you can count on COOK for your application. Contact your COOK representative for assistance.
